Alfred Bosshard's note below reminds me of one of Jay Forrester's "Principles of Systems."


Levels and rates (are) not distinguished by units of measure. The units of measure of a variable do not distinguish between a level and a rate. [Principle 4.3-4 from page 4-8 in Forrester's book "Principles of Systems," repeated on page 8 of Road Maps Chapter 2, and on page 20 of Road Maps Chapter 3.]
