John,
I was just looking through the issue and, of course, looked for "The Big Idea" pages. I hope lots of kiddies have a copy in their Christmas stocking! I also noticed the advertisement for the book, "Science as a Contact Sport". Somewhat appropriate/ironic I felt as I also peruse many, many news articles about the so-called "Climategate" controversy involving the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia.
This is going to do enormous damage, particularly in the USA where the denial industry has such powerful political support. The political will outweigh the scientific at this crucial stage before COP-15 in Copenhagen. It may be a bogus opportunity, but one that will be exploited to the hilt. In a world where Conspiracism has become fashionable, this is a significant setback.
Nevertheless, the Big Ideas article is a significant achievement.
Thanks,
Bill Rathborne
