Subject: Systems Language - Telling a Story

Message:

In Barry Richmond’s last few presentations, he focused most of his efforts on language and story-telling. So I have a question to ask us all.

Let’s assume the story teller is a systems thinker and intuitively knows this:

but needs to tell this story to someone who does not know about stocks and flows, BOTG’s, or CLD’s. True, the map is incomplete, and it is only a map, not at this point a run-able model. However, it tells of a relationship that shifts over time.

Imagine yourself as the student. What is the story you tell? Or, present this to your students, and ask them to tell the story without using any systems jargon.

Tell a narrative that captures and illuminates the relationships described in this diagram.
