There are 2 books which have come out in the last few years which are good for laypeople in different ways. Thinking in Systems is a book gleaned from Donella Meadows writing and was published in 2008. More recently, Tracing Connections: Voices of Systems Thinkers was published as a tribute to Barry Richmond by isee systems and the Creative Learning Exchange.

I would recommend both. Although they are good at giving context and background knowledge, they do not "teach" systems thinking, but are terrific to whet someone's appetite for more.

Take care,
Lees
