I absolutely agree, Heather. Probably on all you have said.
One aspect of testing - it puts you on a timeline. Can you put creativity on a timeline?
One more thing, just because arts are in a curriculum doesn't mean it's creative. I've had 70 years of experience with that as both student and teacher. It's the kinds of experiences the learner is provided with and a basic attitude towards this that counts. That includes the skills that have to be "on automatic" i.e. in piano, the technique that allows you to realize those creative ideas.
And what happened to pure joy in creating something?
Also, what do people think about the way parents have been included in teaching? Or perhaps that inclusion depends on the individual principals' model of inclusion? My experience was that it was a political move, not well thought through.
And how about having a real educator in Duncan's position?
