Alex and everyone who loves math but abhors its current mode of instruction . . .
How much of the American math curriculum is practical?
What are the ten most important mathematical concepts that the vast majority of adults need to master to function well in society?
How many of these "important mathematical concepts" are best taught using SD as a means?
Do we not teach exponential change more effectively using system dynamic models that demonstrate population growth, drugs metabolized in the blood, or interest in a bank?
So, for this old country English teacher, what ARE the ten most crucial mathematical principles to learn? And which models (age-appropriate, for someone in 3rd or 4th grade) would best demonstrate the principle?
