One addition on your statement below -
When we disagree about how things are, we are often unconsciously or consciously defending our values.
Absolutely...word power; our choice of words reveals that, and perhaps, sometimes (not always) an intent (consciously or subconsciously) to proselytize to some extent or the other - for various reasons. Skilled wordsmiths - writers, orators - do this consciously, and are excellent at it.
Certainly words evoke images from memory banks, which generate emotions and attitudes...sometimes reasonable, sometimes not. The trick is to try to sort them out.
One next step might be to examine both the power of words, and values. Do they fragment us from the rest of the world, or do they unite us in necessary ways? Why, or why not?
