Updated Free "Demo Dozen" Simulations are Available
Posted by John Heinbokel on 6/7/2006
Dear Colleagues,
A free updated version of Demo Dozen is now available for downloading from our web site (http://www.ciesd.org/influence/demo_dozen.shtml). These thirteen STELLA simulations offer “hands-on” opportunities to manage diverse systems (biological, economic, historical, & social).
Demo Dozen seeks to make learning about and using system dynamics both “fun” and meaningful by challenging users to address significant questions and manage “real world systems” ranging from making personal choices (e.g., avoiding spoiled potato salad) to weighing public policy options (e.g., how to sustain the U.S. Social Security system). A more complete description of its philosophy and contents can also be found on our web site (http://www.ciesd.org/influence/info-dd.shtml).
This update: • has resized the simulations to fit larger screens, • now runs with STELLA 9 (or 8), • has added a new simulation dealing with drug use and pain management (Demo Dozen is now a baker’s dozen!), and • has modified several of the original presentations to improve clarity and overall quality.
FEEDBACK PLEASE: In the most fundamental spirit of system dynamics we (and our larger community) need feedback on Demo Dozen: • Sharing your experiences with Demo Dozen will give us a better sense of how it is being used and will give your colleagues direction on how they might profit from its availability: 1) Do you have a favorite simulation? If so, which, and why? 2) Have you used any of the simulations in the classroom or other settings? 3) What did it help you accomplish? • Do you have any thoughts on how Demo Dozen could (or should) be improved either to correct flaws or to improve its utility. Constructive criticism is the best way we know to improve this product; we think our skins are thick enough to take whatever you dish out here!
Thanks for your support to date and for your feedback on this new version.
