Regarding the Strogatz take on Romeo & Juliet story... see Michael Radzicki's "Dyadic processes, tempestuous relationships, and system dynamics" in SDR 9:1 (winter '93), 79-94.
To relate this to Linda's original question, there are probably standard ways of "teaching Romeo & Juliet" in the upper grades of K-12. Most likely, some of the SD-oriented teachers of English literature are already aware of Mike's article and have transferred some of his insights (e.g., the CLD) to their classrooms; others may wish to do so. It would be interesting to compare the two teaching methods, the objectives of each, and their outcomes. In any event, as Niall says, it's a great conversation starter in introductory modeling courses even at higher levels.
Cheers, David
