If anyone saw the building of St. John the Divine in Manhattan, however, that process also appears static. All the numbered stones have been laid out on the grounds for years and years. It was begun in 1887 and is still unfinished.

Sorry to disagree, but I now live, and have lived for 12 years where my windows face the back of the Cathedral. The statue of the Archangel on its roof faces my direction. It is still unfinished, but I have watched work on it throughout those years, including a fire, and restoration work afterwards - both inside and outside. It recently constructed a highrise luxury apartment building on its grounds that definitely doesn't blend with the whole! The entire roof of the Cathedral was covered with a metal that looks like copper from my window. It was amazing to watch workmen walk on that roof as though they were on the ground. So maybe this might literally illustrate different points of view?
Or different understandings of 'static'?
Or unexpected cause and effect loop?
