I have the impression that children are very innovative and creative in achieving their goals--how to play one parent off against the other, how to get around rules, how to get the parent to buy candy, how to plan for the future (my daughter went through a stage of wanting to grow up to be a horse, and then shifted to wanting to be a general, which she has achieved in her efforts to run my life).
